Aref

Moneim Adwan grew up in Gaza. Born in 1970, from an early age he was immersed in popular tradition and Sufi culture. Composer, performer and a magnificent oud player, he works here with the texts of the great Mahmoud Darwish, to pay him a personal homage through this poetic meditation, an authentic, spiritual and profoundly human creation. Having chosen several of Darwish's poems for their beauty, rhythm and poetic force, Moneim Adwan brings us a programme based on the richly diverse works of this 'heavenly pursuit'. First performed at the Aix Festival under the title 'Aref', this homage grows richer over the course of time.
