2010 : 17e Académie baroque européenne d’Ambronay "Les Indes dansantes"

A musical and choreographic production after Les Indes galantes by J.-P. Rameau

Musical direction: Hervé Niquet / Choreography: Nathalie Pernette

Orchestra and dancers of the 17th Ambronay European Baroque Academy.

Produced as part of the Biennale de la Danse 2010

A co-production with: La Biennale de la Danse, Lyon; Opéra de Saint-Étienne; Compagnie Pernette; EPCC Theatre, Bourg-en-Bresse; Château-Rouge, Annemasse.

Dance has always played a part in the Ambronay European Baroque Academy, often as an interlude in operatic works. Odile Duboc, Marie Geneviève Massé, Juliette Rasa, Bruna Gondoni, Stéphanie Ganachaud, Jean Gaudin and Ana Yepes are among the choreographers who have so far participated in the Academy.

The 17th edition of the Academy ventured into new territory in basing itself entirely around dance. Hervé Niquet created a highly coloured musical framework by selecting the most beautiful excerpts from Rameau's Les Indes galantes, in the process re-orchestrating certain vocal and choral passages. This inventive and fascinating musical approach found a worthy partner in the contemporary choreographic stylings of Nathalie Pernette. The Academy once more allowed young performing artists from across Europe to benefit from the teaching of a renowned specialist in French music, and to gain experience of a large-scale staged production.
