A Cultural Encounter Centre since 2003, Ambronay created Ambronay Editions in 2005. Its publications respond to a double objective: they bear witness to the vivacity of the Centre's activities in the fields of live performance and training in early music, and also broaden its sphere of activity and that of the scientific board around the theme of 'music and the sacred'.
With an approach bringing together the world of sound, our core activity and our heritage, it seemed to us appropriate to launch our own record label. The other aspect of our work is in the written word, objective and thoughtful collaborations between artists and researchers on the themes tackled by Ambronay; this takes shape through the publication of books.
Ambronay's publications are rooted in a contemporary setting; they underline the interpretive act, the creative gesture, the human perspective. Without neglecting pure scholarship, it is essential to us to bring to the forefront interpretation, creation and debate, through the choice of programmes that we record and the books that we publish. Since 2005, the record label has grown by four to five critically acclaimed releases each year, while our books fall into two main categories, coffee table books and academic journals.

The works published by Ambronay aim to give an account of the artistic and cultural practices developed in the projects of the Cultural Encounter Centre. The publishing activity therefore rests on the comprehensive and cross-disciplinary activities of the Cultural Encounter Centre, and accompanies the great moments in the Centre’s life.
Ambronay Editions is:
Books whose objectives are to stimulate thought and to allow a deeper study of the subjects tackled by the Cultural Encounter Centre, notably that of our theme of ‘music and the sacred’. An approach which is at the forefront both of current affairs in the music world and of cultural activity in general.
Editorial projects which make use of the day-to-day experience of the Cultural Encounter Centre as an important player in the cultural life of France.
An open and inclusive approach, a desire to build a bridge between early music and modern cultural practices.
A daring challenge?
In 2005, having celebrated the 25th anniversary of its international Festival and developed the European Baroque Academy, founded the European early music network and having become one of the fifteen French cultural encounter centres, Ambronay launched its own record label-Ambronay Éditions.
• To share the special synergy between the performers, the public and the extraordinary acoustics of Ambronay’s abbey.
• To give wide exposure to Ambronay’s artistic approach, the emergence of young talent, innovation and diversity.
