Pass MÉDITERRANÉE(s)
Cabaret Méditerranée(s) 1 Marseille - 09/25 :
Maurice el Medioni + a mediterranean light meal + Lo Cor de la Plana
25 € (Young : 18 €)
Maurice el Medioni :
Maurice el Medioni's art was shaped by contact with American soldiers in post-war Algeria. He has assimilated many influences, from Cuban music and boogie to pre-rai. The Festival invites us to meet the inventor of the pianoriental, an instrument of his own creation which he dominates like no-one else, with a unique passion and exuberance. Not to be missed!
Lo Cor de la Plana :
Here is a male choir from the Plaine district of Marseille, who treats the concept of tradition with a healthy flexibility. Popular Occitan heritage is revisited and recreated with the addition of polyphonic lines. The choir cheerfully defies any preconceptions; injecting swing, groove and a very Southern unruly good humour.

Cabaret Méditerranée(s) 2 - Hommage to Mahmoud Darwich - 10/02 :
Moneim Adwan (Aref) + a mediterranean light meal + Trio Joubran (In the shadow of words)
25 € (Young : 18 €)
Homage to Mahmoud Darwish
Mahmoud Darwish was born in a village in Galilee in 1941. Forced by historical events into a life of wandering and exile from the age of seven, his poetry has always been highly sensitive, full of imagery and reminiscence. Universally considered as one of the greatest contemporary poets, his language has a universal appeal, transcending its origins and the painful complications of his own life. He died in 2008, leaving a prolific oeuvre which has been translated into many languages
Moneim Adwan (Aref) :
Moneim Adwan grew up in Gaza. Born in 1970, from an early age he was immersed in popular tradition and Sufi culture. Composer, performer and a magnificent oud player, he works here with the texts of the great Mahmoud Darwish, to pay him a personal homage through this poetic meditation, an authentic, spiritual and profoundly human creation. Having chosen several of Darwish's poems for their beauty, rhythm and poetic force, Moneim Adwan brings us a programme based on the richly diverse works of this 'heavenly pursuit'. First performed at the Aix Festival under the title 'Aref', this homage grows richer over the course of time.
Trio Joubran (In the shadow of words) :
'The shadow of words' – this is how Mahmoud Darwish defined the metaphor. He thought that poetry was firstly music and that it was 'read as much by the ears as by the eyes'. For him, recitation became a necessary extension of the act of writing. The Trio Joubran accompanied him on many occasions throughout Europe and the Arab world, and after his death, their last project became a homage… The Joubran family in Palestine has lived, loved, played and manufactured the oud for over four generations. Inheriting this passion combined with technical knowledge, the three brothers possess a unique mastery of the instrument; between them exists a harmony and synchronicity which is their trademark. Youssef Hbeisch enriches the trio with percussion which merges seamlessly with the music. A moment of true beauty.
