Léonardo Garcia Alarcon

Born in Argentina in 1976, Leonardo García-Alarcón began his piano studies at the age of six. At fifteen he began to familiarise himself with continuo performance on harpsichord and organ, and in 1997 he entered the Geneva Conservatoire to study harpsichord with Christiane Jaccottet. In 1999 he became a member of the Ensemble Elyma and assistant to Gabriel Garrido. He has taught at the Geneva Conservatoire since 2004, and his chamber music partners include Andrea de Carlo, Christophe Coin, Maurice Bourgue, Sergio Azzolini and Manfredo Kraemer. He is now invited to perform at some of the world's greatest concert halls, such as the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Vienna Musikverein.

With the group Cappella Mediterranea he has recorded the album Peter Philips, an English composer in Spanish Flanders (released in September 2007 on Ambronay Editions) More details here ! Leonardo García-Alarcón directed the project Issé, an opera by A.C. Destouches, in which he cast musicians and singers from the Bourg-en-Bresse Conservatoire à Rayonnement Départmental. In July 2008 he began a series of masterclasses at Ambronay, The Composer Students of Francesco Cavalli.

A recording of the programme performed at the 29th Ambronay Festival - Barbara Strozzi, virtuosa cantatrice - will be released on Ambronay Editions in 2009.
