THE WORK
Le Carnaval et la Folie (1703), an opera in four acts and a
prologue with a libretto inspired by Erasmus L'Éloge de la Folie (In
Praise of Folly), was the first musical comedy to be performed at the
Académie Royale de Musique, now known as the Paris Opera.
"Folly (...)
Is only an excess of passions, caprice, of frivolity and levity, it is
part of our nature and the wisest among us should recognise it within
them".
