Since the creation of the Festival of Baroque Music in 1980, the
cultural remit of Ambronay has expanded into the area of training and
development.
Following the creation of the Festival Choir in 2000, whose aim is to
encourage choral singing in the Ain region, Ambronay put in place in
2001 a programme of Cultural and Artistic Journeys for school children,
with the collaboration of the local education authorities. Ambronay is
currently engaged in rolling out a new facet of its educational
activities, cultural classes. These will take place in a dedicated
building, newly restored and situated at the heart of the abbey.
For professional musicians and those starting out on their careers,
Ambronay began in 1993 an innovative new project, the European Baroque
Academy.
Its pedagogic approach is to offer to young European artists a period
of intensive training, resulting in the production, under professional
conditions and under the direction of renowned specialists in the
field, of a major work of the baroque repertoire.
Since 1993, masterclasses have also been held throughout the year;
these take place in the grounds of the Cultural centre and are led by
conductors associated with the Centre, notably Gabriel Garrido,
Christophe Rousset and Jérôme Correas.
